India, in April, declared a global health emergency 2.0. The gut-wrenching Covid-19 second wave gave immeasurable grief and suffering to the citizens of India.
Day by Day, week by week, we lost the count of people infected with the virus. With each passing day, with the events unfolding, the end of the tunnel seemed like a lost long dream. Within 8 weeks of its onset, it changed the way one human looked at the other.
In the corridors of the busy hospital, people took their last breath. Some died on the way to the hospital and some in the bed of their home because of lack of hospital beds.
While the healthcare system fell weak, the blame game became strong. Strong enough to bash our Healthcare workers.
On one hand, we were short of resources, on the other hand, we were attacked by monsters, donning the face of a human, who took undue advantage of the situation.
What made India so vulnerable in the Covid-19 second wave?
The good did its deed, but the money monsters couldn’t be satisfied at any cost.
A stack of false leads flooded the market; Oxygen which is available for free, now came at a cost. The hunger for money allowed some to run away with payments done in advance and some just doubled the price of the goods they sold.
As if this scam was not enough, women who shared their number for COVID help, received disgusting requests from the sick men of the society.
Build walls, restrict travel, segregate from the world they said. But did that stop “YOU” from going out of the 4 walls of your house? Did that stop you from travelling to the Himalayas? Did you wear your mask properly?
1.3 billion people fell ill at the same time, not just India’s, but any system would have failed, any!
Could things be done differently? Absolutely!
But, did we, as the good of the society, did our bit? You may say, I shared 1000 leads with my friends, family, but, how many times did you pick up the phone and verify the lead? You didn’t help someone in need, you just dumped information on the already stressed-out human.
Doctors are facing the wrath of undirected anger. The same doctors are working day and night, without rest, wearing PPE kits, drenched in sweat to halt the spread of the COVID-19. How do you justify this behaviour?
The real struggle today is not of COVID-19, but the disunity and distrust that exists within our society.
Every pyre lit in this wave signifies the death of humans and humanity.
The third wave is coming! God forbid if things go south, sooner or later we are going to lose the count of the waves as well. If you want the world to survive, do your bit.
Truly excellent, god bless you
