Who decides when we hang our skateboards?

Women for long have been put under the brackets of different notions with respect to their age. But, thanks to certain women out there, who are breaking the glass-ceiling/the gender-stereotype, it’s becoming a more believable place to live.

Last night I read some stories, and they got me thinking, are we stepping into a whole new wave of a progressive era?

Meet Jean Rusen, a woman in her 50s, who has been skateboarding for 25 years now. In an article she says, many consider her “too old” for skateboarding, but time and her dedication have helped improve her skills and today, she judges a few of the skateboarding contest as well.

A 43-year-old woman from Philadelphia says, she feels empowered by each little skate goal she conquers.

Lena, a 67-year-old skateboarder, started skating when she was 61, (well, age is just a number). She says in an interview, that her age, was her biggest support, as one has the freedom to make as many mistakes as possible.

So, who decided when these women should start skateboarding or drop out of the game? (Definitely not us!)

The purpose for sharing these short yet super inspiring stories is to tell all the women out there, waiting for the right opportunity or for the right age or the right time – Take a Leap of Faith.

It can be frightening, but that’s its beauty. Without the leap of faith, we won’t be able to know what we are capable of. Nobody should decide when you should hang/pick your skateboards. It is your life, your choice.

As a society we need to grow, and chat this mantra:

Respect those who have an out of box thinking.

Help those who tried but failed.

Motivate those who are about to reach the finishing line.

“Be a Person, who cheers other women! Be a person with a Purpose”
