It’s 2020 and we are still fighting for Gender Equality

We live in a world where gender equality is still an aspiration.
Be it home or workplace, even after taking some concrete steps, we are far from breaking the glass ceiling.
In my personal opinion, the noise around “equality” is more than the actual actions.
For example, statements like –
“This is a man’s job”
“I recently interviewed a young single Man, I think he would be more suited for the job.”
“Don’t behave like a girl”
“You are a girl, you should know how to cook food” are still part of the conversations.
The other problem is – Gender equality is taken as a women’s issue. To achieve long-lasting gender equality the thought process of the society as a whole needs to be changed.

A single man or woman cannot bring a long-lasting change, its a collective effort.
The fact that opinions are based on one’s gender still exists. Skills and qualities are still not the “key” deciding factors for a job.
I believe one needs to closely look at the successes and failures of an individual. We all live in the same universe but have different experience which shapes us as humans.

I’m all for equality, and no men or women should be considered insignificant or lower than other because of its gender, cast, or skin colour and no dream should die a cold death because of this.

There is no particular right time to start working towards a cause which one believes in. We owe it to ourselves and to our future generations to ensure each one of us live a life where we get to live up to our full potential.
