“PCOS is not a disease, it’s a lifestyle disorder”
In layman’s narrow terminology, PCOS means irregular periods and weight gain. But often we skip other little details which might direct us to our destination.
I was 20, when my skin had become a reason of nightmare for me. Let me tell you, everyday I woke up with a new acne on my face, there was a time when I started naming each one of them, it sounds stupid and weird but that’s the truth. I couldn’t see my face, I could see just dark red spots.
I had visited every doctor in the city to get myself cured for the “Disease”
The funny part, I was not diagnosed with PCOS for 3 years of my life or more if I say so. I used 100 kinds of creams, facewash, DIY facemasks, to get rid of the marks, it helped for a week but then I was again the same. A girl with lots of acne on her face.
My periods were normal, I had no issue with my weight, but still I had PCOS. It was only when I went to an endocrinologist, when I was diagnosed with PCOS. Infact till date, my ultrasound shows that I have a minor level of PCOS.
So, let’s get some facts right here:
– PCOs can happen to anyone, infact, every 1 in 10 women suffers from PCOS
– Irregular periods is NOT the only sign of PCOS
– Excessive body hair growth, acne, darkening of fingers tips and elbows, hair fall or thinning of hair, is also a sign that you might be suffering from PCOS
– PCOS can lead to mood swings. You might be having the best day of your life and suddenly you might feel like crying. It happens, the point is you should understand the reason, why is it happening
The Bigger question now is what’s the cure?
PCOS can be treated by medicine, BUT, in the long run, you need to understand, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle is what you need to adop. Infact, to keep any disease or hormones related problems away, you need to follow a healthy lifestyle.
This world health day, take a pledge, to take care yourself.
Build a routine, adopt healthy eating habits, exercise regularly to lead a happy and healthy life.
